Emerald Green Desk

They say this is the "color of the year", the new "it" color.
Every time I go to Lowe's, which is at least twice a week, I see this display of paint starring at me, screaming "buy me buy me". I gave in to the temptation and I am glad I did.

Now here is the story behind this desk.
The hubby bought it at an auction a while ago. Since the move we have had several yard sales and every time someone would peek into the garage and ask about it. The hubby is a "buy and sell" type guy, if he can make money without touching it he will. I gritted my teeth every time someone asked. Thank goodness no one wanted to pay a whooping $45, I think I would have killed him if someone bought it for that price :) Needless to say, I knew I needed to get started on that desk before he had another sale and someone actually bought it!

The original plan was to stain the top.
Problem was the veneer started to come up as I was sanding.
After peeling all the veneer off it just wasn't in the right shape to stain.
Here are some more "after" pictures:

All the hardware is original. No paint. All I did was wipe them down and clear coat.

Give me any piece of furniture with this rope detail on it and I will add glaze every time. I love how it brings it to life.

So do you think "emerald" is the new it color?
Do you like the wood grain drawers against the green?

Little Yellow Chest

This poor little girl was tossed to the trash.
Yes, she was ugly and looked like a boy! But with some minor fix its performed I think she turned out cute. What I love most about this one is the hardware. Now normally I would not buy anything with brass on it. However, when any light hits the clear knobs a gorgeous yellow beams through! So pretty!

So much prettier!

Just a fun little project

I seem to have a "thing" for OWLS lately!
Don't normally do little projects like this but since we bought the new house I am in need of these little things. And since you will NEVER see me pay retail prices for trinkets I think I am gonna a start a re-doing a few.
I think he turned out cute :)

AND

Just a little paint and glaze!

Dresser Revamped

Favorite piece this week!!!
Some projects I know exactly how I want them to turn out, others not so much. Well this one was right on the mark. When I found this dresser at the auction I thought for sure someone would try to out bid me. Nope, another piece no one seemed to care about. Their loss, the new owners gain!

Here is what she looked like when I brought her home:
Oh, and she did have a mirror but I just wasn't seeing this one with a mirror attached so bye bye it went.

Here she is now:

I am not sure what the color is?
A reddish/orange??

All original hardware, just cleaned and painted.

Love how the glaze took on this

What do you think?
Would you use as a dresser, a TV stand, a buffet??

Mid Century Modern Chest

I love to put a fresh twist on a mid century piece. I have seen this done quite a bit lately on Pinterest and other furniture websites so I thought I would give it a try. I think the only thing I would have done differently was to use a high gloss enamel white paint versus the latex. Other than that I am pretty pleased overall. To me it is a classy look.

So here is the "Before" picture:

And the "After" pictures:

Love it???

Too Long...Did ya miss me!!??

So its been a while since I last posted.
Big things happening around here.
The first, and the biggest...A new house.
So exciting for some many reasons. One is the obvious, owning a home of our own again but the one that makes me giddy is the decorating and remodeling plans. So many that it makes my head spin! Sometimes I have to take a step back, breathe and realize I can't do it all at once. But I wanna, I really wanna!!
It's been seven long years since we owned our own home. In that time I have refrained (okay tried) from purchasing any furniture to refurbish for us until now. Needless to say I have had my fair share of "I gotta have that piece" or "that would look sooooo good in our..."
So YAH!!! that wait is finally over.
Over the next few months (probably more like year) I will share the progress of each room or different piece I refinish for that room. I hope you all enjoy and can find some inspiration of your own!
Oh, I almost forgot....I have been stocking up on furniture projects galore! Its been over three months since I have been able to work on anything. Very sad I know, its been killin' me! Well, not to worry. The last few days the hubby and I have been workin' our tails off trying to get some finished. We have four projects needing final touches and the weather decided to be uncooperative. Rain? Really? All we needed was one more day of sunshine!!! So all I can offer you now is a sneak peek of the "before" pictures.
Check back in a few and we should have them done. That is if the rain decides it will GO AWAY :(

Thanks everyone for staying with me during this recent pause!!
