Fun Little Signs

Trying to get a little more creative on some home decor.
Some simple pallet boards and clothes pins.

Our New Fish Tank Stand

Fish Tank Stand
Moving into the new house we had an odd shaped fish tank stand and no where to put it.
So I dug deep into my furniture stash and found a Drexel buffet that was missing the top.
We had purchased this at an auction for 5 bucks!!
Seriously, it was a beautiful piece, no top and all!
I knew we would find a use for it for day!

I wish the pictures would have come out better but the lighting in the living is room is not the greatest right now.
And please don't judge the blah-ness of the wall color....
slowly but surely we will get each room painted and decorated.

So here it is:

AND

I think the top is my favorite!
Amazing what a couple of 2 x 8 pieces of wood will do!

Now it is time to add the fish tank!!!
Oh wait, can't yet
Must paint walls first
Which would require me to decide on a color theme...
I was so excited to buy a house and have free reign to decorate but now I am second guessing every little detail!
URG!!!!
So if anyone has any suggestions on a color that would make this stand pop feel free to comment and let me know!

Two Shades of Gray

Love how the two shades of gray look together!
When picking a color on this one the hubby chimed in
"you never do gray"
Well dang it, now I had to do it. He said in almost a challenging tone.
Well this baby had been buried in my garage for probably 6 months. It was identical to one I had previously refinished so I knew I needed to do something different.
Here is the link to what the other one looked like:

I wanted to go opposite, and since I had to use grays,
this is what I came up with:

And the BEFORE:

Here are all the close up AFTER pictures:

Love the extra space here, I couldn't leave it unfinished.

This piece was pretty old so it had been banged up
Instead of stripping it down to a smooth surface I wanted to highlight all the abuse it had taken over its history.

What do you think of the two shades of gray?

Fundraising Rocking Chairs

Its summer time and nothing is more calming than sitting on the front porch sippin' on some good ole southern sweet tea.
Its not often I get that chance!! :(
My daughter is a middle school dancer and they practice like crazy during the summer months. Between refinishing furniture and carpooling her around to the studio, to the school, to ballet, to gymnastics there is not enough time in the day.
So when the team decided to raise some money I thought it all to fitting to re-vamp some old rocking chairs to sell.
(So if anyone lives near Chattanooga, TN these are for sale...and all the money goes to them!!)
I already had one chair laying around but knew I needed more.
Now, I am not a huge fan of Facebook, however someone turned me on to these online yard sale sites on FB. Now those are pretty cool. I decided we could raise more money if I did a matching pair too.
I posted "ISO: Free rocking chairs" and boy was I surprised how quickly I got a response. Within an hour I had this wonderful lady donate two chairs AND she only lived a few miles away!!! She will never know how grateful I am for that. It not only renewed my faith in the kindness of people around here but also made be realize once again the hubby and I made the right choice in moving to this area.
With all that said....Here are the chairs:

Here is what they were "Before"

I hope we can get these sold soon.

For a Girl's Room

I love doing furniture for little ones
and pink screams little girl!
My mom had given me this pink & white checkered fabric years ago. When I saw this piece I knew it was time to pull it out.
The dresser had great bones, solid as a rock and cedar lined drawers. Don't see that too often anymore.
So I knew I needed to make this for a nursery.
A piece that a Mom could use for years.
Because we all know that when our daughters reach say 10 yrs. old we have NO say in there room decor!!
I can' tell you how many times mine has changed her color...her furniture...her decor...it is a never ending cycle!!!
I just gave up and let her do her thing, some battles are just not worth the headache.
Okay, done rambling about that. Back to this piece.
Here is the "After"

Here is the "before":

All the AFTER's

Love Paris themed anything!

MCM w/ a Twist

I was feeling the need to do something a little different with this piece. I do love refinishing mid-century modern furniture but this one was so blah!
Why not add a little shabby chic to it?
Here it is all done:

I wish I had the "Before" pictures!
Who knows it I forgot to take them or just lost them??
What I can tell you is it was so boring!
Even as I finished it it was still blah so I decided to add some hardware to kick it up a little.

What do you think of the MCM & Shabby Chic look?
In the end it wasn't one of my favorite, but it took just a few short days to sell! Which always makes me happy.

Emerald Green Desk

They say this is the "color of the year", the new "it" color.
Every time I go to Lowe's, which is at least twice a week, I see this display of paint starring at me, screaming "buy me buy me". I gave in to the temptation and I am glad I did.

Now here is the story behind this desk.
The hubby bought it at an auction a while ago. Since the move we have had several yard sales and every time someone would peek into the garage and ask about it. The hubby is a "buy and sell" type guy, if he can make money without touching it he will. I gritted my teeth every time someone asked. Thank goodness no one wanted to pay a whooping $45, I think I would have killed him if someone bought it for that price :) Needless to say, I knew I needed to get started on that desk before he had another sale and someone actually bought it!

The original plan was to stain the top.
Problem was the veneer started to come up as I was sanding.
After peeling all the veneer off it just wasn't in the right shape to stain.
Here are some more "after" pictures:

All the hardware is original. No paint. All I did was wipe them down and clear coat.

Give me any piece of furniture with this rope detail on it and I will add glaze every time. I love how it brings it to life.

So do you think "emerald" is the new it color?
Do you like the wood grain drawers against the green?
